Oil Painting "Afternoon at Sea - Alaska"

12" x 12" Oil on panel.  Available.

It's spring and I'm starting my almost daily trips out to Orca Island Cabins once again.  Mountains meeting the sea is the primary view on my way to and from our cabins.  This past weekend I was there with friends cleaning cabins of cobwebs and where possible, giving every inch a shine.  In two weeks time our first guests for the summer will arrive.  This painting was actually painted last fall after the summer.  It will soon be hanging for sale in the little gallery on the island.

Oil Painting "Winter Alley - Seward, AK"

Oil Painting on canvas 30" x 40"

Here is one of my newest paintings that I have completed recently.  I enjoyed painting this very much because it is a subject that I love.  I drive around our little seaside town and I am in awe at the beauty of Mt. Alice and Resurrection bay in the background of all the everyday small town buildings, cars, oil tanks etc.  This painting will be in my upcoming show on May 6, 2016 at Resurrect Art Gallery.

Charcoal drawing - Natasha

Charcoal drawing on Stathmore paper.

I  have been unintentionally gone from my blog a very long time.  It is not because I have not been working but my work has taken a bit of a shift.  I have been doing more drawing lately and I have also done a few larger paintings that simply take more time.  This drawing of my friend Natasha is the type of drawing  I am trying to do more of.  It is a very good skill to be able to draw a portrait effectively.  By drawing a portrait which must be very exact I am improving my hand, eye coordination.  Drawing is the foundation to any painting and the more I can improve my drawing skill I will also improve my painting.  If I draw a tree and it looks like a tree I still have plenty of fudge room in the drawing.  As long as it looks like a tree it looks accurate.  But if I am drawing someone's portrait there is much less wiggle room for me.  This is what can really helps me to improve.
