September - Mt. Benson

8"x 10" oil on canvas.  I am taking a little time off from painting this week due to the holidays and family visiting!  However I am planning and gathering ideas for new pieces.   For now here is a painting that I sold a few days before Christmas and never got a chance to post on the blog.  This is our harbor as we come in to it form being out in Resurrection Bay.  My focus here was on the light and early fall colors of the mountain.

Cloudy Days

Neighborhood

6"x 9" oil on wood, $100.  I'm posting three paintings that I painted on location from inside our truck.  The truck has more room than my car so it works pretty well.  This location is just down the street form my house and studio.  This was done about 4 weeks ago in November when it was pretty gray and cloudy out.

November Grays

6"x 6"  oil on wood, $75.  Painting in the truck takes some getting used to.  It is cramped and it takes about two hours to do even a small painting like one of these, maybe less.  When I get out I have to really stretch to get the kinks out from holding still and balancing pallet and painting.  Then, I wonder, will Dennis (my hubby) notice the new spots of color that have been added to his dashboard or steering wheel by a stray brush.  So far so good!

Gray Mountains

6"x 6" oil on wood, $75.  The first two above are looking out over to the east over the ocean and this little one is looking north and a little to the west.  This was a rather dark day in mid November.

Early Morning Paddle

6"x 12" Oil on wood panel.   SOLD.   Hump Cove is an ideal location for kayaking due to its calm waters, rugged cost line and marine life.  Everyday during the summer months we see harbor porpoises feeding in the cove.  It is a great experience to be in your kayak with porpoises swimming all around you.    They tend to come at any hour of the day or evening and are easy to see in the clear water.

Thank you to those of you who are leaving me comments!  It really helps me to get your feed back!  I am happy to take requests as well.

RVs at Water's Edge

5"x10" Oil on primed wood panel.   This is a glimpse of RV camping along Waterfront Park in Seward, Alaska with Lowell Canyon in the back ground.  Not bad views for these brave souls.   All along our downtown the water's edge is reserved for RV campers.  We have a bike path there as well.

10" x 15" oil on primed wood panel.    These kayakers are out at our summer cabins in Humpy Cove.  The large island in the distance is Fox Island, the smaller island in front of it is Hat Island.  The kayakers are paddling around a rocky outcropping that disappears under higher tides.  The island where our cabins are is just coming into the picture at the far left.

Pt. Woronzof #2

5"x12" oil on primed wood panel.   Same place as the last painting posted but if you look closely you will see some differences like the reflection in the water and the mountains of the Alaska Range across Cook Inlet are more visible ... not covered by clouds.   Happy Thanksgiving Day!

I donated this painting to the KAKM Public Television Art Showcase Action 2013.  You can bid for it on February 21-23, 2013.

Pt. Woronzof

9"x 12" oil on primed wood panel.   This painting is of a view form a friend's house who I sometimes cat sit for in Anchorage, AK.  They have a beautiful home on a bluff right in town that looks over all the houses below and right out to Cook Inlet.  The land formation in the left of the painting is called Pt. Woronzof.   So this painting was painted in plein air, however, I was inside looking out large glass windows as I painted.  The temperature was roughly 12 degrees outside at the time!
